Dear Newspaper,
Gang violence is dangerous to everyone including the innocent people on the streets. More importantly the gang members themselves, most of them are innocent. They join gangs to feel accepted. We fully supported our son’s decision to join the gang “The Royal.” He was killed last night because the murderer saw him wearing a purple jacket that had printed on it “Royals.”
I think the mayor and police should crack down on gang crime and have more patroling officers on the street. My son was lying on the ground for almost twenty minutes and no one helped him. If we had more officers some would have found him and helped him. Another suggestion would be to arrest gang leaders and eventually eliminate them.
I have one last thing to say, I would asked that the killer please step forward so you don’t live your life in shame. I hope you feel ashamed of what you’ve. Taking an innocent persons life is stupid thing to do. You didn’t even know his name, yet you will always remember the name, Andy.

Robert Pinsky, To Television
I found this poem really neat because he is writing about how much television means in our world. I found this poem diffuclt to understand because there were lots of big words. I really enjoyed this poem because it was well written.
Robert Boates-Boates, The Afterlife
I liked this poem because it was touching. It was about the poet’s life as a poor, abused child. The poem makes you think a lot. One part that makes you think is when he states “Sleeping in a bed once shared.” I think this tells us that he has a terrible life. It also says that he is poor and can only afford to share a bed. One very touching part is when is says “It’s counting the months not know days of the week.” I think this means he is waiting for his life to get better but doesn’t now when it will. Something else he says that’s interesting is “its life on welfare and disability pension, smoking tobacco again.” I believe this means that there are very poor but they use what little money they get to buy tobacco. In conclusion this poem was well written can is very moving.
Patrick Lane-Lane, Elephants -
This poem was difficult to understand because there are a lot of confusing parts. One example of a confusing part is “The alcoholic truck drive and the cat skinner sit beside me with their eyes closed. All of us waiting out our last hour until we go back one the grade.” This is confusing because it gives no details. In the end the confusion is resolved when they tell us the grade is a high way being built. The morale in this poem is great because the person in this poem is building a highway over a graveyard that a little boy’s father is buried in. As I’m Reading the first stanza, I am very confused because it has no point. I find myself needing to stop and re-read it. In the end it was a very touching poem that makes you think. I really enjoy this piece of poetry. Kiakshuk- TheKiakshuk,The Giant Bear-
I read this poem because the title caught my eye. The title explains the poem completly because the peom is about a giant bear. I think that people would read this poem because of the title.
Seamus Heaney, Song
I found this poem confusing because of the way it is said. It is very poetic but very difficult. It was very challanging to read.
Richard Wilbur, A Fable
As I read the first stanza I become interested in this great poem. It tells me that the character is a snake trying to avert danger. I think the first stanza is meant to catch the reader’s attention. This entire poem has a single morale. I think the morale can be describes with the most meaningful phrase: “Security, alas, can give a threatening impression; too much defense-initiative can prompt aggression.” This is said because the snake is too obessed about his safety so he attacks someone who means no harm. I think this message can be applied to everyday life. I liked how this poem rhymed. I think it made the poem more interesting and enjoyable. I definatly made the point of the poem more interesting. Another thing I liked about this poem was that it was not difficult. I would recommend it to my friends or anybody else because it is probably one of the best poem I have ever read.
J. Hugh MacDonald, Going Up?
I would recommend this poem to everybody because it is funny. I say this because I liked it a lot. I thought this poem was very simple.
